The challenge.
Dockworkers traditionally gathered at a physical location known as the Kot, where foremen allocated work. Moving that established process online meant supporting users who had not asked for the change while meeting CEPA’s operational requirements.
The key decision.
Strategic sessions clarified the organisation’s needs, while discussions with users informed the requirements. These insights became wireframes, prototypes and initial interface designs for development.
The rejected option & why.
Digitising the process solely around organisational requirements would miss the needs of the people using it. User input was considered alongside the operational requirements.
The outcome.
The work translated strategic and user requirements into wireframes, prototypes and initial UI designs, which the development team built.
The final verdict.
The engagement balanced a familiar work-allocation process with a new digital experience. Research and prototyping helped connect dockworker needs with CEPA’s requirements before implementation.
