ZF Windpower

ZF Windpower needed to showcase its SHIFT 6k gearbox at WindEnergy Hamburg before the physical product was available. We supported UI implementation and AR development management. The design was created by design agency King of Hearts in Antwerp.

ZF SHIFT 6k app presented on an iPad with surrounding interface screens against a pastel gradient background.

The challenge.

Transporting large wind turbine gearboxes to trade fairs is difficult. ZF’s newest gearbox was still in development, so a physical display was not available.

The key decision.

The app used plane and image tracking to place a true-to-scale 3D gearbox in augmented reality. Visitors could explore technical details and request information directly in the app.

The rejected option & why.

Shipping and displaying the physical gearbox could not address a product that was not yet available. An AR presentation made it possible to demonstrate the technology virtually.

The outcome.

The iPad experience let visitors explore the gearbox and its specifications, with an information form sending enquiries to ZF’s sales team for follow-up.

The final verdict.

The project translated an unavailable physical product into an interactive exhibition experience. King of Hearts in Antwerp created the design; our contribution focused on UI implementation and managing AR development.
